DARTH GENIOUS!

George Lucas' Episode III: "The revenge of the Sith" is definitely the best of the three movies of the "second" trilogy. It is the key that opens the door to enlightenment and understanding!
Every part of the movie fits into another part into the intricate fabric of the other five movies. One finally understands that "Star Wars" IS a political statement - a political movie. But above all, it is the ultimate explanation to one of the best-made villains of all times in movie history: Darth Vader.
When I say the best of all times, I mean it. We were not at the cinema sitting in front of a big screen only to see Anakin Skywalker becoming someone else. NO! We were there only to see the birth of DARTH VADER!!
It is Lord Vader who makes the movie worth seeing it. It is Him who pervades the movie with his presence. Not the weak Anakin; the flawed, would-be jedi who finally falls into Darth Sidious' trap.
It is Lord Vader who holds the film together from beginning to end.
Why is he the best accomplished villain of all times? Because HE is the MYTHIC figure, and not Anakin. It is Lord Darth Vader who brings us to another world of myth.
As Joseph Campbell puts it in the book "The Power of Myth", certainly "Star Wars has a valid mythological perspective. It shows the state (government) as a machine and asks Is the machine going to crush humanity or serve humanity? Humanity comes not from the machine but from the heart..." Darth Vader is, then, the machine man. "He can provide us with all the means, and is thus likely to determine the aims of life as well," says Campbell.
The former is so true about Vader's qualities: he is half human, half machine. He becomes the state arm, a subordinate of higher political powers - like the Emperor. And he can really provide and determine the aims of our lives; he can easily take our lives away!
Lord Vader represents technology, he represents the uniform: the state role. But he is also a duality in motion. He is the best villain, because he is not entirely evil. Before Padme died she told Obi Wan: "There's good in him." This duality of life taker but with good in him is what makes him a truly fantastic villain. He is, in all his grandiose presence and surroundings, still a human being prone to goodness.
The movie is, therefore, the ultimate homage to the making of this great character. He fell to the dark side, and Lucas made a wonderful work of art in showing us in an increasing tempo and rapid succession of breathtaking events, how this was reached.
The last two minutes of the movie are the best part of all, showing in all its magnificence the birth of a great evil character: the black, shiny armor of a lost jedi, cocooned and trapped in one of the best masks ever seen, with the imposing, yet frightening, hiss of breath of a half-man who has lost the fuel with which hearts are filled: love.
The image of Darth Vader will prevail in my mind everytime I need a fulfilled, complete, devilish character. He is whom I want to be.
